Curriculum

Our Focus

The curriculum at ½ñÈÕ³Ô¹Ï has an emphasis on the building of literacy and numeracy skills. Children will have the opportunity to develop and apply these skills in a variety of challenging learning situations.

We focus on supporting every student in the development of their academic, intellectual, social and physical skills to their greatest potential. Our aim is for every single Richmond Primary graduate to leave us equipped with the skills and confidence they need to positively contribute to their community and the world around them.

Victorian Curriculum Overview

The Victorian Curriculum model describes what is essential for all students to achieve from Prep to Year 10 in Victorian schools. The curriculum outlines both learning areas – such as Mathematics, English and Science – and capabilities – like Critical and Creative Thinking. These outline the knowledge, skills and behaviours all students should acquire if they are to successfully manage themselves and their relationships with others, understand the world around them, and participate meaningfully in their communities.

The curriculum is designed to offer varied approaches to learning in order to fully engage students, build their confidence, and challenge them to achieve their best. The focus is on programs that provide students with opportunities to demonstrate achievement as they move from Prep to Year 10.

The Victorian Curriculum acts as a common basis for reporting student achievement; it does not prescribe the nature of individual school programs. Course planning, curriculum organisation and classroom practice is developed at an individual school level.

The following key learning areas are considered important components of the curriculum:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Inquiry
  • Physical Education
  • LOTE (Mandarin)
  • Performing Arts
  • Visual Arts

In addition to core areas of learning, we offer a range of student enrichment programs to stimulate, extend and excite our students, including:

  • School Camp (Year 3/4 & 5/6)
  • Interschool Sport (Year 5/6)
  • Whole School Production
  • Arts Gala
